I Got Away

I Got Away

Dynamic Superiors
On this track, its still early in my career and I am trying to fit as many notes into one bar as possible. Some how though, it seems to work out well, and contributes nicely to this highly energetic track.

Shoe Shoe Shine

Dynamic Superiors
Classic 70’s soul ballad. Even then, this teenage bass player couldn’t help but get a little busy on the fade...hmmm...

Just Say

Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye

On this track, the age of 16, I am still reverting to my “upright bass" classical roots in the formation of this bass line. See if you can hear the “baroque" music influences coming through...

Girl You Know

Girl You Know

Teddy Pendergrass
If you’re not snappin’ your fingers after the first few bars of this tune you are definitely missing the “groove gene". On this track it appears that I’ve finally learned to restrain myself and constrain myself to a well formed bass line and it seems to have paid off…

Is It Still Good To Ya

Teddy Pendergrass
Here Teddy is covering an Ashford & Simpson song from one of their earlier albums. This is a fine, sexy soul ballad...dim the lights and cuddle up to your honey on this one...

The Landlord

Gladys Knight & the Pips
This bass track is a good example of following some solid bass line writing concepts. Follow the rhythm of the melody to help create the bass line. Define the verse and chorus sections of the song by alternating between a sparse bass line and a legato bass line. I’ve even managed to add a little light “slap" occasionally to funk it up a bit. Not a big hit but a great album track, check it out...
